Extra Curricula activities are a most important part of the school’s ethos. Strathfield South High School is developing a number of activities which will have an impact over the next few years.
These include

1. Debating. While in the embryo stage of development, the Year 10 debating team won the Zone Debating Competition in 2008. The team is coached by staff members and meets regularly in lunchtimes to prepare and consider the many skills in debating.

Plans are in place to expand this activity into Year 11 and year 7 and 8 in future years.

2. Band. With the appointment of the Head Teacher Performing Arts, SSHS will be undertaking the development of a Concert Band Program commencing in 2009. This will take on all the instruments in this band and professional tutors will tutor the various instrumental sections. The band will be developed over the next few years with the goal of creating a program where the talent and skill is of a quality that can tour country NSW.

3. Choir. This activity is underway and will be further developed over the next two years. This group performs at a range of activities including

a. School assemblies
b. Semester Award Ceremonies and
c. Presentation Night.

Practises occur during recess and lunchtime.

 

 

4. Leadership Program. The Prefects and the Student Representative Council form an excellent leadership team in the school. Coordinated by the Prefects Master and the SRC Coordinator, this has been an outstanding program in the school for a number of years.

The SRC is especially active in developing a pleasant school environment. It is active within the school’s recycling program and in greening the school. The SRC has engaged support from outside the school to assist in the creating of the “Southside Sanctuary”, a green area that has been replanted.
